How do I create a desktop shortcut icon on my desktop that opens a file or program on my hard drive?

To create a shortcut to a file or program on your computer, simply right-click on the icon for it and keep holding the button. Next, drag your mouse pointer to the desktop and release the button. A pop-up menu will appear. Choose "Create Shortcut Here" from the options. At this point, you can rename the shortcut, if you wish.
