What do I need to connect two or more computers together so they can share files and access the Internet?
If you want to connect a few computers together as well as share an Internet connection, you'll need a router. This can be a wired or wireless model. In addition, you'll need network adapters for each computer you wish to connect. Many newer desktop and laptop computers come with wired ethernet ports already installed.

A router not only connects the computers together, either with wired or wireless ethernet, but also allows sharing of a broadband connection. The bonus is a router also provides firewall protection to keep out hackers.

If you use a wireless router, be sure to enable the security features to prevent nearby computers from connecting to your network.
