Is it possible to be truly anonymous when chatting or posting messages?

There's no such thing as being truly anonymous online. Just because you don't use your real name, doesn't mean people can't find out who you are. There are many ways to track down identities based only on your IP address your computer uses while online. Even if it changes often, there are records of who had what address and when they had it.

Don't share anything online you wouldn't want in a criminal's hands. Likewise, it's not hard to track you down if you participate in illegal activities.

While there are ways to make it easier to hide your identity, a warrant from any court trumps whatever protection you may have in place.
