What is a PCI slot?
The PCI slot is the Peripheral Component Interconnect. It's used for most expansion cards, including networking, modem devices. PCI has a potential throughput of 133 MBps. While this is fine for most devices, it's much slower than what modern graphics cards need. Those devices mostly use the AGP port or the newer PCI Express. The PCI slot is not the same thing as PCI Express, which operates much faster.
