What is a CCD?
CCD stands for Charged Coupled Device. This is the image sensor in a digital camera. When light comes into a camera lense, it is momentarilly saved on the CCD. From there, it is instantly transferred to the storage medium (memory cards, tapes, discs, etc.). Essentially, a CCD acts as temporary digital film before it reaches the storage device. Camcorders also have CCDs and those work much the same way as the ones in digital cameras.
