Is it possible to scan or print a picture without using my computer?
Today's printers and scanners can do a lot of things on there own. In fact, some scanners and printers don't even require a computer connected to do their work.

Many printers have memory card slots on them which can allow you to print photos directly from your digital camera's memory cards. Some have small image displays on them to preview you photos.

Many all-in-one units (which include both printers and scanners) can allow you to scan a photo and print a copy of it without ever turning on your computer.

Newer scanners often include a hot button to scan without interacting with your computer, though you'll need to actually store the images on your system once they have been scanned.
