Are round IDE cables better than flat?
As far as system performance, round cables are not much better than flat. They offer the same data transfer capabilities as flat versions. However, there is one major benefit to using them.

By the time you cram all the devices into your computer's case, there isn't much room for airflow. This can hurt your computer by not allowing heat to escape. Flat ribbon cables can make it worse by blocking air circulation.

A round cable is less likely to disrupt the flow of air through your system. This can help keep things cooler and protect sensitive components. Since components tend to operate slower when too hot, anything that can cool things down can only help.
