Do I need a digital cable box for all my TVs?
When you subscribe to digital cable, you usually get a decoder box to allow you to view the programming. The question is, do you need a box for each of your TVs?

The answer to this question is no - at least not for the basic channels. As long as cable companies continue to offer analog service, you'll still be able to run secondary TVs off the direct analog line. This is because the channels that are available with analog service are also analog with digital cable service. You can just plug the line into the wall jack and get many of your channels.

However, you won't get all the channels that you'll receive via the cable box. Premium, Pay-Per-View and Video On Demand channels are only available with a digital receiver. In addition, music stations and some regular channels are digital-only. You also won't get an on-screen guide that you can browse through, though many services offer a channel that scrolls programming information. To get all the features of digital cable, you'll need another box or share one with two TVs.

With most services, a second box adds around $5 to your monthly bill.
