CD players that hold large numbers of CDs are often called "jukeboxes" since they offer as much of a selection as a traditional jukebox.
Because these units hold the CDs in vertical slots with no method to lock them in place, moving one of these devices without removing the discs from it is asking for trouble. The tilting, bouncing and shaking that occurs in the moving process can cause the discs to jump right out of the slots. You're liable to encouter a jumble of CDs inside the the player, usually in the large space where the laser is located.
To protect both the player and the discs from damage, it's a good idea to remove the CDs before transporting the player.
