Should I get a camcorder that takes still pictures?
Many new digital camcorders also take still pictures. Though the quality usually isn't as good as a regular digital still camera, this can be a useful feature.

At certain times, it can be inconvenient to carry two devices with you. Having a video camera that can also take still pictures can help you slim down your baggage when traveling.

In addition to taking pictures through the lense, a camcorder with still features can also snap shots from video you have already recorded. This way, you can share memories of your vacation via e-mail without sending large video files. The quality of those stills will usually be lower, though.

Finally, if you don't have a still camera already, this can be an easy way to get into digital photography. You can snap quick spontanious pictures that you might not think of as "film-worthy".

One thing to consider is the quality of the stills won't be as good as those from even an inexpensive digital still camera. While they are getting better, camcorders simply don't take high quality stills. Don't buy a camcorder based on the ability to take stills. Consider this feature a bonus, not something you'll frequently use.
